Birth and Postpartum Support Package

Giving birth is one of the most miraculous and wonderful experiences a person can have.  It can also be confusing and overwhelming, especially for first-time parents.  We can help guide you through the entire process including birth and post-natal care.  We’ll help you decide on your birthing preferences, how to advocate for yourself and so much more.

For births I work as a team with another doula, Julie Hobart. One of us will always be available to you and support you for your entire birth experience.

  • Available to answer any questions, provide resources and emotional support during your pregnancy.

  • Prenatal meeting to discuss your birth preferences, how to advocate for yourself, comfort, and labor progression techniques, how to prepare and to answer any questions you have about pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum period

  • Support during labor to answer questions, coach through labor, help with options etc. (from 37 weeks through 2 hours postpartum)

  • One, 1 hour postpartum visit to answer questions, talk through birth experience, check in on your healing, breast/feeding and transition to parenthood

  • Four, 4 hour postpartum support visits (during the day) that can be used in the first 12 weeks. During these visits I help with informational, emotional and practical support (details listed above under postpartum support). Option to also add on more sessions if you want more support and we are available.

What are the benefits of having a birth doula?

Our main role is to support you and make sure you have a birth experience that is positive and based on your personal choices. We provide evidence based information and can help you create a birth plan. We are not there to judge or make decisions for you. During labor we can provide encouragement, comfort, support, physical and emotional techniques to manage pain and also help support your partner through the process. Studies have shown that having a birth doula increases the chance of having a better birth outcome. Women are less likely to use pain medications (we support you if you choose to though) and are less likely to have a cesarean. Many women are also having more positive, empowering births that they remember as a positive experience with a doula present. Partners of the birthing parent also benefit from having another support person there to help walk them through everything and it relieves some of the pressure for them to remember everything they learned in the childbirth class.

What are the benefits of having a postpartum doula?

"The fourth trimester" or the postpartum period right after having a baby will be a time of adjustment for everyone. Having emotional, practical and informational support during this time will be vital to make the transition as smooth as possible. Having a doula makes it so you can enjoy this time instead of feeling overwhelmed. It also reduces the risk of feeling isolated and developing postpartum depression. A doula is there to support the whole family in whatever way you may need. We can be there to support you emotionally, physically and provide evidence based information. Some tasks we can help with include help taking care of your newborn, help taking care of a sibling, help with laundry, help with light housework, help with meal prep, help with breastfeeding, help with a sleep routine or just be there as someone to talk to and support you and your partner emotionally.

How long does a postpartum doula stay?

We can start helping as soon as the baby is born and typically start for up to 12 weeks unless you feel like you need more support. Daytime visits are 4 hours with a minimum of 4 visits. Nighttime visits are typically 8-9 hours and are based on availability. We can discuss what you are looking for and how long you would like support at our initial consultation.

When should I hire a doula?

For both birth and postpartum we would recommend reaching out sometime before you are 30 weeks along so we can start to establish a relationship and so we can make sure we are available for you. We require a deposit to hold our availability that will be put towards the final cost. If you are more than 30 weeks along still feel free to reach out and we can see if we are available for what you are looking for!
